Biodiversity and other walks of life

Protecting biodiversity contributes to the preservation of the natural goods provided by the ecosystems that are necessary for human life

Biodiversity is a common asset of all people and needs to be carefully preserved and protected to ensure our good living environment. Preserving healty and cohesive ecosystems and the sustainable use of natural resources help reduce the environmental pressure caused by human activities and mitigate the effects of climate change. Thus it isvery important to take biodiversity into account (and avoid damaging it) in all areas of our lives – be it spatial planning, energy, transport, or organising various events.

It is important to strike a balance between the social, economic, and environmental spheres, giving thought to the capacity of the natural environment when trying to achieve a good quality of life. By defending our nature and its biodiversity, we also contribute to the preservation of the benefits of nature (or ecosystem services) provided by the ecosystems that are necessary for human life. It is because of biodiversity that we have access to many products and materials necessary for life (e.g. food, pharmaceuticals, construction materials). Preserving biodiversity helps to ensure that these products and materials are also available to future generations. In addition, biodiversity is an important guarantor of quality of life for people as a maintainer of health and a provider of rest and relaxation opportunities. Studies show that an attractive natural environment around the home helps to improve people’s physical and mental health. [21]
